What is Coaching?
A fundamental aspect of coaching is that it works on the belief that you have everything you need already to achieve what you want to. My job as your coach is to uncover this potential and help you realise how you can succeed using the tools at your disposal, instead of teaching you something new
Coaching will also help you develop 'self-awareness' so you can realise what skills you already have. Figure out what it is you really want to achieve. And develop realistic strategies for getting there
By the end of a period of coaching, you should feel empowered and equipped to set and achieve your own goals without having to rely entirely on someone else for support and guidance
What is Self-Awareness?
Being a successful leader, new or existing, means being able to understand and support the individual and collective needs of your team(s). And to do that, you must first understand yourself
Coaching will help you shape a 'growth mindset', and discover your own 'emotional intelligence', gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities to help tailor your leadership skills for the better
What is Growth Mindset?
Psychologist, professor, and researcher Carol Dweck originated the 'growth mindset' concept. Those who see failure as a learning experience have a positive attitude that leads to acceptance of feedback and better subsequent performance
A growth mindset is when an individual understands that their abilities can be developed. A person who has a growth mindset believes that their potential to acquire skills is mostly limited by effort and not intelligence
An individual with a growth mindset focuses on processes, persistence, effort and strategies
What is Emotional Intelligence?
Emotional intelligence (EI) is most often defined as the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage and handle emotions. People with high emotional intelligence can recognise their own emotions and those of others. They use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour. Discern between different feelings and label them appropriately. And adjust emotions to adapt to environments
Studies have shown that people with high EI have greater mental health, job performance and leadership skills. EI is typically associated with empathy because it involves an individual connecting their personal experiences with those of others. Methods of developing EI have become widely sought by individuals seeking to become more effective leaders
How Long Will Coaching Take?
The length of the relationship and the regularity are agreed up front and driven by you as the client. Meetings can be fortnightly or even monthly and are typically between 45 and 60 minutes depending on your personal preference. The next session will typically be agreed at the end of the previous session
What About Privacy?
Your privacy will always be protected in our coaching sessions. The specifics of our sessions are never discussed or shared with others. General anonamised content (such as topics or themes) may be used on social media or may be discussed with my Coaching Supervisor (someone who helps me continue to develop further as a coach). But no names or specifics that could identify the individual in any way are discussed
